The National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC) are geared towards raising awareness of Aboriginal hockey in Canada as well as giving Aboriginal youth an opportunity to showcase their talent on the national stage. The tournament features elite bantam and midget aged male and female athletes, which attracts participation from First Nations, Inuit and Metis from each Province and Territory across Canada. NAHC, founded in 2001 by the Aboriginal Sport Circle, is sanctioned by Hockey Canada and is hosted in the spring by a different city in Canada every year. Northern Canada is represented at NAHC as Team North, featuring the top male and female hockey players from across the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
