Beginning January 2010, the Right to Dream program helps communities host events aimed at promoting physical activity and excitement around the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Communities that organize an event will be supplied Olympic Winter Games gear for every participant.
The Right to Dream is promoting five individual programs that can be facilitated or supported in any NWT community. Below is a brief outline of each program:
Pond Hockey/Fun on Ice: This year’s emphasis is on pond hockey and accident prevention. All participants will receive a helmet and hockey stick.
Dene Games & Arctic Sport: Can be organized as a school or community event.
Mini Olympics/Paralympics: Any Olympic event can be organized with slight modifications.
Archery: An introduction to Archery for all ages.
Hip Hop: An introduction to hip hop and rhythmical music. This can also involve traditional drumming with modern dance.
